| See the PORTRAITS of MEN exhibit for contemporary portraits of men in realistic and expressive styles.
More images of men are found in the REALISTIC and EXPRESSIONISTIC FIGURES and the PLAYFUL FIGURES exhibits. The OTHER FIGURES exhibit contains organic figure abstractions and other unusual pictures of men and women. My figure art always begins with live models. When drawing pictures of men, I am attracted most to the dynamic expression and complex musculature of the male body. My stylistic inspiration comes from realists like Michelangelo and other Renaissance artists, as well as from masters of sensuality like Gauguin, Klimt, Matisse, Degas, and Van Gogh. Whether attracted by color, form, movement, or expression, I like to use media that are swift and sensual, and work quickly to capture the model. This spontaneous portrayal may complete the artwork, or I may work the portrait or figure into a complex composition energized with pattern and collage.
