Portraits of Women

Some of these portraits are quick sketches
in dry media done from short poses; others
arise from long portrait sittings that allow
for detailed studies of faces and drapery.
I use professional models; I rarely draw
friends or commissioned portraits because
I like to experiment free from constraints
and others' expectations.

My portraits aim for a synthesis of form,
media, and expression. I particularly like
to find and exaggerate the interesting
colors under the skin tones.
